BALANCING GENERATED TRIP ENDS

TransCAD provides a built-in procedure for trip balancing. With TAZ as the working layer, go to Planning / Balance and open the Vector Balancing dialog box. Enter the following values:

  1. Dataview: TAZ
  2. Records: All records
  3. Select FHBW_P from the pull down list next to Vector 1 Field. FHBW_A is automatically added as Vector 2 Field
  4. Method: Hold Vector 1
  5. Click the [Add] button. A new row is added to the Vector list (but ID is selected as Vector 1 by default).
  6. Select FHBO_P as Vector 1
  7. Method: Hold Vector 1

Repeat this procedure to add FNHB_P and FNHB_A to the third row in the balancing vector list.

Under [Options...] you can choose to write a new table file or store overwrite your current Attraction field. Choosing to overwrite results in a cleaner dataflow, as you don't an additional file, but makes tracking errors more complicated.

If you chose "Write new table file and store as [Real]", then you should save the new file as trips.bin to your current working folder.

In this last case the results are displayed in the TAZ+TRIPS dataview. Set the TAZ+TRIPS as the active Window and go to File / Save as. Select Dataview file (*.dvw) as the file type and enter balanced.dvw as the file name. A text file tcw_rep.txt can be viewed by clicking Show Report. After review, the file can be closed without saving.
